SHE KNOWS HER POWER GIRLS CAMP – Zahara Girls

This is a four-day overnight holiday camp for girls (ages 12-17) that provide essential empowerment training for girls as a stepping stone, exposing them to structural gender challenges and encouraging them to believe in their own abilities, and fostering a sense of self

We combine the best of traditional girls camp – amazing friendships, fun games and community activities, a powerhouse team of experienced staff – with mindfulness, small group discussions, poetry, storytelling, performance, and visual arts. As a result, girls will build wellness and leadership skills that will help them confidently navigate life in a biased society.

SURVIVORS LEADERSHIP

Our program is designed for survivors by survivors with support from community partners.

Using a strength-based approach, our program provides a comprehensive, trauma-informed three-month training that combines experiential education, medical, shelter, socio-emotional learning, leadership development, and upskilling for employment and business management.

Throughout the program, survivors are provided safe shelter and additional opportunities to begin healing, build fellowship, and develop into leaders.

Survivors are provided opportunities for professional and personal development, building authentic leadership opportunities and skills development.

OUR APPROACH

Our leaders include educators who work with high school and primary school students, guidance counselors, professional women leaders, and college women who hold a variety of leadership positions on campus.

We know that girls learn best when they have a variety of leading personalities and mentor levels to learn from, which is why we build our teams with diversity.

WHAT MAKE US UNIQUE

  • Our programs are led by young women advocates who are survivors of sexual violence and now encouraging hope through leadership.
  • We put social and emotional learning (SEL) at the foundation of leadership development.
  • We design our programs to meet the most marginalized girls’ needs to serve all girls best.
  • Our program provides a unique counterbalance in helping girls to grow into confident young women who are energized about the future!
