This is a safe, trauma-informed emergency shelter sensitive to young women survivors of sexual violence. We have 20 beds, a library, and full-time staff and are a safe space for pregnant and LGBTQ teens. They begin with finishing high school diplomas and advancing toward college, developing a solid work ethic, becoming good mothers (for those who are pregnant or parenting), acquiring financial literacy, and growing self-esteem. They redefine themselves and reshape their futures.
City of Peace is also a community empowerment center with various activities designed to empower and enrich the lives in the communities we serve by exposing girls to the STEM, Robotics, and IT fields. Thereby creating career awareness, diversity, and better employment opportunities.
STEM ACADEMY- GIRLS’ SUMMER CAMP
This four-day overnight holiday camp for girls (ages 12-17) provides essential empowerment training as a stepping stone, exposing them to structural gender challenges, encouraging them to believe in their abilities, and fostering a sense of self.
Our summer camp specializes in science, engineering, robotics, coding, and 3-D printing. These activities are designed to create career awareness for our younger generation. Other activities include character development, sports, Visual arts, and more.
Books inspire, evoke dreams, and show us that we can achieve whatever we aspire to. But not everyone has books; we work with a community that shares our passion for reading. Our library is a converted container and accessible for all. It acts as a center for other activities bringing the community together and allowing individuals to help the rest of the community improve their reading, writing, and other transferrable skills.
We provide books and space for community children to do their homework, adult learning, and girls’ after-school tuition.
