Rarely do sexual violent victims and survivors speak up on turning a new leaf of life and choosing to focus on positive outlook of the journey of life where survival is for the fittest.
Faith now a survivor of sexual violence, narrates her ordeal and how she has managed to tackle her healing process three years later.
The twenty one year old, mother of one, was sexually assaulted at a tender age of seventeen years and the act left her pregnant. She was yet to clear her high school education, but against all odds the young girl proved her resilience by putting on a strong armor and competing her high school while caring her pregnancy to giving birth just a month to the national examination for secondary schools in Kenya.
Faith resides in Mukuru Kwa Njenga a popular slum in Kenya, and now her main struggle is to get employment and help her ailing mother and son through paying house rent and providing basic needs to her family.
She also looks forward to pursuing higher education her dream is to be a journalist, as she looks to inspire the world with her story.
In her words she captures;
‘I hope that one day the struggles will come to an end. I’ll find a job that will enable my family have a good life, am always dreaming of becoming a journalist, and am passionate about it. I want my kid to have a good life and not the life that I have lived.’
Faith’s resilience towards having a better tomorrow, is motivational since she is willing to be self-empowered so as to cater for her two year old son and mother .She currently does odd jobs like washing clothes for people so as to make ends meet. She would wish to start a business where she would sell basic items like diapers and food stuffs in her vicinity as well as get academic sponsorship to further her studies.
The Wounded Healers foundation Kenya upon getting her story has manage to offer her with counselling and now conducting a fundraising from well-wishers so as to help support Faith’s dream. Her dream of becoming a journalist will cost $1100 per semester while that of starting a small scale business will cost $300.
