We are thrilled to explore the opportunity of joining Wounded Healers on their Mission trip to Kenya. These trips are exceptional and offer a one-of-a-kind experience where you meet new people and build lasting bonds with them. As Volunteer Abroad, these trips hold a special place in our hearts, and we feel privileged to serve the community.
You can be a part of Wounded Healer's charitable work by joining our all-inclusive "Mgeni" trips to Kenya. Accompany our team for two weeks and participate in outreach activities or volunteer at the City of Peace Shelter to bring hope and empowerment to the communities we serve. Be ready to get your hands dirty and wake up early to create a positive and lasting impact on the lives of those we serve. Apart from helping the community, you can also enjoy game drives, visit Nairobi national park and Giraffe Center, and explore Kenya in a unique way that only Wounded Healers can offer.
Upon your arrival at the airport, you will be picked up and taken to a delightful hotel in Nairobi. Take the opportunity to catch up on some rest, as the following morning, we will visit a sanctuary for baby elephants and giraffes before indulging in a delightful lunch at the Karen Blixen Cafe. The next day, we will delve into charity work, starting with an orientation at the City of Peace Shelter to acquaint ourselves with the team. We will then proceed to host a medical clinic to address women's reproductive health while having some fun with the girls in the shelter. Other activities include multiple safaris, sundowners (enjoying a beer while observing wildlife), and engaging with various communities. After more than a week of early mornings and hands-on work, you will have earned some downtime. We will conclude our adventure with a fantastic house, Maasai cultural dances at Maasai Mara reserve, and a chance to reflect on the experiences of the past days. Finally, we will all depart for the airport together, thus marking the end of our journey.
This Mission trip to Kenya will be a small, intimate group, and we expect these spaces to fill quickly. To see if you think you would be a good fit, please fill out the Mgeni Application. and when you’re ready to nail down your spot, don’t hesitate to get in touch with us at safari@woundedhealersintl.org for instructions on how to make your $500
Q: Do I have to be there for the entire ten days?
A: Not necessarily. Under unique circumstances, we can sometimes accommodate shorter trips, but it all depends on the itinerary. To get the most out of the trip and enjoy the whole experience, we highly recommend being a part of the entire trip, finishing out with a few days relaxing in Maasai Mara national reserve and watching Maasai culture dance.
Q: Are children allowed?
A: Children are considered on a case-by-case basis. It’s a very raw and beautiful experience, which may be too much for the little ones.
Q: Are there payment plan options?
A: Yes! The way we plan these trips and their payment is via installment. After the initial deposit, there will be three more dates set, at which time you will pay for another portion of the trip.
Q: Do I need any vaccinations?
A: Absolutely – you can reference the CDC website, or for a more streamlined option – we recommend visiting a Passport Health office near you. They will provide the most up-to-date service and give you everything you need. Be sure to give yourself plenty of time ahead of the trip, so you aren’t rushing toward the end.
Q: What about Malaria?
A: While Malaria is present in parts of Kenya, it’s not something to lose sleep. Some people may choose to take preventative medicine, but it’s unnecessary. Often, we use Deet. It’s the best option while on the ground and usually the only precaution the Well Aware team takes on their multiple trips each year.
Q: What do I wear?!
A: This is not a silly question at all! There is a packing list we provide, which can be found here. Although, in short, you’ll want to dress like you’re going on a light hike. For the ladies, no low-cut shirts or very short shorts. Also, there’s no need to bring anything fancy on this trip. Casual clothes will be your best bet.
Q: What are the accommodations like?
A: We currently stay in safe, comfortable, and lovely accommodations. This varies for each trip, but we usually are in 4-star hotels, at names you are likely familiar with. We are in the process of building a big rescue center for girls where we will have a Mgeni camp huts
