Wounded Healers International operates in both Kenya and Maine with a mission to provide opportunities for African women and girls to heal from violence through holistic support and to empower them to disrupt cultures of violence within their families and communities.
Our project addresses the unique challenges faced by Maine's growing immigrant communities and trauma survivors. We provide culturally sensitive yoga and mindfulness practices and trauma-informed nature programs. Our project was inspired by the lack of representation of immigrants and people of color as teachers and students in yoga spaces and outdoor adventures.
In Kenya, Wounded Healers is committed to the empowerment of survivors of all forms of sexual violence, including human trafficking, domestic violence, and sexual exploitation. Our programs amplify survivors' voices and offer comprehensive support to help them heal, regain dignity, and rebuild their lives. We engage men, boys, and the broader community to become allies in preventing violence against women, fostering a culture of respect and support.
